Great job, thanks for sharing the story. As usual, I am drawn to passages that highlight wonderful themes, and I think you did wonderful in the opening passage capturing the quiet desperation of a heroine when she is forced to dress up despite oppressive heat.
"Caitlyn let out a sigh of relief as she entered the air-conditioned building. It was a sweltering day in late June. She was stuck at an outdoor reception for one of her best friends’ wedding and the heat was turning her into a sweaty mess. Her heels clicked on the hard floor as she walked to a bench, in the hallway where she now found herself. She wasn’t even sure if she was supposed to be in there.
She wore a light pink strapless dress that fell to a few inches above her knee. Her shoes were high heels the same color as the dress. On her legs, she wore pantyhose; the bride had made her bridesmaids all wear pantyhose so they’d have matching legs. Caitlyn hated having to wear pantyhose on such a hot day. Her straight shoulder length brown hair hung loosely."
-We feel the heroine's struggle, even though we know she will get no respite due to byzantine societal rules. A great beginning to her peril!
